Re: Season 34 General Discussion
@donkeysaint could you walk me through your U20 subbing conditions? I thought they would stay on the whole game unless you were winning or losing by a narrow margin (<15?) at say 60 minutes? Or is it energy management so they can start every league game?
and kudos to Rob for going for the wnwim.

Re: Season 34 General Discussion
At the moment it's mainly about energy management. Since they play Monday as well as cup games, I want to keep them relatively fresh. After my cup run ends, they might get more time.
Like I said, l never expected to be competitive last Saturday, so I was too lazy to set up conditional sub rules. That is what I'll normally do, though. Depending on how the game develops they will come off sometime during the second half.
For me, this is a fun, but also effective way to build a competitive squad in the long run. I have no problem shopping for specialists, mainly tall players, but what will drive my squads development and ensure I stay competitive over time, will be development of U20 players.

Anticipating a CSR difference of around 130K, and being away from home, I thought that was very farfetched. I also decided to assume Robelix would play normal intensity (as I had decided I would). In that scenario, even the possibility of denying the Hercufleas a bonus point seemed unlikely. I expected to lose by a fair amount, even though I thought I would avoid a complete rout (which I have reserved for round 5 ).
This is the reasoning that is @donkeysaint 's trademark, and that I will never stop reminding everyone, was a masterstroke in the S30 u20 World Cup: A calculated WNWIM against PI that resulted in a top 16 win.
I fully agree. @gimping is the person that opened my eyes to this. Training three players every other season means every two seasons you get three players at 20 with 200K CSR at a bargain price. These players will go on to break the 300K CSR at 26 or 27 and, more importantly, you can train them the way you like. Cores? Rounded players? It is for you to choose.donkeysaint wrote:BTW, that is not me making a sacrifice for the NZ U20's, or something like that. I do it because it is vital for my squads future to get the pair of U20's I hope to train every other season as good as possible, because their training ends as the new pair shifts in.
Funny you say that, I try to do it the other way around. Train my forwards and look for backs. Generally speaking I find backs are cheaper in the TM (at least around the 200K-300K CSR mark). I care less about discipline in the backs and nowadays, weight, height and discipline are really expensive.donkeysaint wrote:

Thank you. But now I have to remind you that I obviously got it wrong this time. Lucky me it wasn't the world cup.

Not everyone are lucky enough to scout a 208 cm player. The rest of us have to shop for height.

In the end, I must say I am pretty pleased with my team. They did well in what arguably was my third, or perhaps even second, most difficult league game this season. They got within 9 points of drawing, and had I planned slightly differently it could have been even closer.
Lastly, congratulations to @Robelix for winning on WNWIM! That was a show of strength, and a clear sign that a difference of 115K is worth a great deal. But my question must be, was it worth the missed bonus point?
heya donkeyman.
it was a good result for me, despite missing out on a bonus point. playing in league one is sometimes a juggling act on deciding which games to gamble with a pwnwm....whilst I may not have taken home the 5 points, I am more than satisfied with the 4 points and a squad that is in reasonable strength to play the formidable sparker this weekend. hopefully the extra energy points should give me a good advantage over them....(not that that has helped me in the past vs sparker, they have been my bogey team for quite some time now)
it was a great effort by your team to just lose the try count 3-2. it really does show that tactics wise you played a great game (in fact, you won the line-breaks!). looking forward to seeing how the league develops over the season

You know what I enjoy the most about playing in league one? Competing with active, smart managers, discussing games, tactics and anticipations.
BTW, if you had been on normal I would have been outplayed. Â
Good luck against Sparker!

I'm still deeply bitter about that How long were you playing BR for when you scouted him @tryasta?

Re: Season 34 General Discussion
I started as S26 was closing in playoff time, so I scouted him with whatever few stars I had at the start of S28... I remember I had a lvl 2 YA at that time and lvl2 senior facilities so I stopped everything and focused only in getting proper facilities. In brief I built my club around him.
But I don't know why such fuss around Booth... in S30 my wife found this player, in many regards much better than my lad.
So to answer you question, 1 season and a half before I got him.

The tallest player I've ever scouted is 206 cm. The tallest with my main club is 204 cm and I've been trying since around season 8 to get a giant - still without success.

I cannot believe it. 5 minutes later I scout Felix Wimmer who is 207 cm.
Also rebellious and 97 kg

Re: Season 34 General Discussion
sheesh that is real hard luck sparky.
I also had tough luck today...2 days prior to his auction to end, Renee Ranger drops skills in defence (21 to 20) and speed (20 to 19)....grrr, at least there is already a 2 mil bid, don't expect much more now....

Ouch. Defies belief! I have... No, I can't say that. Well, anyway: My three S38 scouts are flawless. Â

Given these and given my disappointing scouts for S36 I am considering promoting one next season and train him in the seniors from age 17.
Now that's it. You won't talk to me in a fortnight.

Re: Season 34 General Discussion
In my 33 seasons of BR, I don't think I've ever had a season where I haven't had at least one giant in my lineout...
Ronnie Henstridge - 212cm
Charlie Clement - 207cm
Sanzo Komon - I think he was 205cm but I ended up playing him as a loosie because I already had Henstridge and Clement
Marcus Heckler - 207cm
Mitchell Wassell - 204cm I think
Geoff Turnbull - 205cm

The tallest one I have ever scouted was the infamous penalty machine Hubert Goldfinger. 202 cm and rebellious.
So, @tryasta, you stand out. As does your family. Perhaps you should groom your kids into BR-players too.

Re: Season 34 General Discussion
The early giant players don't count. Otherwise I could celebrate the fact that I once scouted a 149 kg player...with 3000 CSR.
I have 1 flawless player in my YA (a back, naturally) and 4 rebellious players.

Ok which one of you smartarses banned chewy from here?
He has been acting the prick lately on BR but I've seen nothing from him on the NZOS which deserved a ban. You best be confessing very quickly, to me in private if necessary. I suppose he could've banned himself or it was an accident but that seems very unlikely.

I have no idea, sparky. I for one have done nothing and I haven't heard of anything else.
If he is banned I'll have a look in the administration panel to see if I can unban him.

He should be easy to unban. Just unclick the banned bit in his profile. I was waiting for someone to explain first.

Chewy is unbanned now, and I can confirm that he was banned. I don't know if there is a record or something to see what happened. I'm on my phone now and on the way to work, so feel free to look into it.
I also added Chewy as a moderator for the NT section, which he for some reason wasn't.

There is no way Pantherus did this for laughs. He barely plays BR anymore. Chewy must have requested it and in that case best leave chewy to his own devices.
