Season 35 General Discussion
New season, new thread. Who will win, who will lose, will the inevitable wandering into off topic be about cricket or Swedish history? This topic covers it all..

I'll start by welcoming @Sumo and Sumo's Revenge and @Sole136 and Showtime to League One. Good luck, to you both!

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
good luck everyone.
the question on my mind is...will this season be the first where a club will be the first to break 50k attendance for a home game?! and who will it be?
my new stadium will be opening in a few days that will take it up to 49,570....then will do another upgrade to take it above 50k....but not sure what it will take to then fill it up....have to make sure I keep my contentment up! (currently blissful)

Good luck and have fun everybody.
I think Rob is the only one with a shot of having a >50k stadium attendance this season.

Like I said before, we will have to start playing international games at Rob's stadium.
BTW, BR seems to be down. Is anyone else able to get on?

BR is up for me and everything looks fine.
I was up against some imposing stars for a Monday friendly (silver stamina & bronze defense) yet I smoked 'em 45-3 with my 9.5 stamina & 10 def.

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
Good victory. I had a problem with Aidan's Sports Academy last season, losing one and narrowly winning the other in the NZI. Seemingly I was the only one as they relegated to div III.
I play them again in the NZI this Thursday. I will be interested in seeing how I do.
Good to see you playing Monday friendlies too! Are you planning to train any U20 this cycle?

Nope, but I will be training 3x players (ideally from my academy) the next U20 cycle.

That's ambitious for a club that I assume will still be one of the highest ranked in the game. I do hope they will receive the game time they need (i.e., pretty much full).

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
I think it will be fun to try and maintain a top NZ club (not saying THE top club) while playing 3x U20 players from my own academy. I have two good prospects and some other okay ones. You have proven a team can be very competitive in Div 1 with 2x U20s, and my U20 Mallard got lots of game time too and did decently.donkeysaint wrote:ivelostmysparky wrote:Nope, but I will be training 3x players (ideally from my academy) the next U20 cycle.

Hi Guys I have lost track where are we with the usage of stars to coincide with a u20 WC generation. Do we spend them in week 2 of this season?

That is how league games should be. Narrow the pyramid!
I see you squeezed out a 10-9 win on the back of two unconverted tries.

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
ok...so finally decided it was time to promote my lock prospect from my academy....and as usual, whenever I promote someone who looks like a lock I throw a lot of stars at them (120 this time). and guess what.......
....another reckless player! there must be something wrong with the coding that says that whenever I invest >50 stars into a youth player his attributes must = reckless.
...and at the end of the day he was only 196cm tall (but at least 128kgs)
FYI the player promoted is...
Garfield the Apocalyptic
19 y/o (R1, D5) | 107,343 CSR | $14,360 p.w. | 202cm | 119kg | New Zealand

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
Throw lots of stars at backs since their physicals don't matter too much.
Spread the stars around a lot of forwards since you've got a pretty low chance of getting the physicals you want. I'd say you've got about a 30% chance of getting a player with reckless/rebel discipline. I'd also think that the median height for a lock is probably 201cm with a 3cm standard deviation. Want someone 205cm or over? You've probably only got a 10% shot of that. Won't even get into weight.
The chances that you get the discipline you want plus the height you want equals .7 x .1 = 7% chance (based on my made up numbers) or about 1 in every 14 attempts.
Spread the stars.

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
Just to make the probabilities even worse, I doubt the average lock is 201 cm - I think it is 199 cm based on the amount of 190-192 cm locks I've gotten and the lack (read entire lack of) 206+ cm.
However I don't conform to this communist ideology of spreading the stars. Put 60+ stars when you scout for each of your 3 YA locks. Because when you finally get one with good physicals you don't want it to be low on skills.

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
I was thinking 30 stars, but I'm certainly willing to split the difference between 30 and 120 and go with 60. 120 is 3/4 of a season's worth of a level 3 scout though. Horrendously risky if you've only got a 7% (or less) chance to get the kind of player you want.
You're probably right with the 199, looks like locks cap out at 208 so that fits your range.

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
Small point of order, I don't know if there is a cap, but there are 209 cm players out there example 1 and example 2. If I recorded the heights of all the locks I've promoted over the years I would know for sure what the mean and standard deviation are. It will be a normal distribution of course because we know Jeremy loves them.
Failed lock pulls can of course be recycled into loosies and props so I always like to have a little star gamble even if the odds are small of hitting a tall player with okay or better discipline, let alone the jackpot of tall, heavy, and good discipline.
As for Rob's promoted player Garfield, I see that he only has 5 discipline At least Druss has 8. Dooley is also 8 but is collected! I would be more tempted to train Nelson Berry, and of course Alexander Ingram when the time comes. With Dooley and Druss both 8 discipline I would ignore the fact the former is collected with the latter reckless and sell Dooley and keep training Druss. The 130 kg is epic while the reckless puts people off buying him when they see "reckless" without looking a what the discipline is on the V2 site. On the other hand, the 203 cm of Dooley is very attractive on the TM, and collected looks a lot better than reckless, even though both players are within 1, and likely 0.5 of each other on a 20-point scale system. Selling Dooley will get you....$5M? That's got to be tempting.

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
By "cap out" I meant hit that three standard deviation rule. A normal distribution still allows for values beyond that but the probability gets very low.

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
Gotcha. 199 +/- 3 cm is my guess for locks. Or is it tighter at 2.5 cm SD?
