Re: Season 35 General Discussion
Well my Catfish completely folded in the second half but Katipos powered away to comprehensive win.
Good luck Rob

Wow, a great result for the Katipos!
Sorry to see the Catfish gone, and good luck to Rob! A mammoth task indeed!

Patea also managed to get to the Semifinals.

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
a respectable 34-15 loss to Canterbury of Carrugate.
Penalties (17) kept me in the game, but maybe I should have played it tighter so as to avoid a moderate amount of turnovers (12), as breaking his line was pretty hard to do (only 2 line breaks).
Maybe I should have aimed to play it more in their half by kicking downfield more often and then hope to milk more penalties. Though at the end of the day, I needed much more possession....

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
I don't think increasing kicking would have done you any good. Give them more ball and they'll probably score another couple of tries even if they concede more kickable pens.
Now to see who our Donkey will play in the semis. Hammers and Carugate are both very beatable, but I'm not sure about Koodoo.

I've got Hammers at home, which was probably as much luck as I could have in the draw. I think I have a good shot!

Oh, you should have an easy access to the final. Even my plaque rival has a higher CSR than yours

Unlucky tryasta to be facing a farm team which just bought their entire squad but I do see that you've secured a top 4 league spot with 2 games to spare

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
A terrible loss earlier today. Bad form is driving me nuts (and yet 9 players are in decreasing form). I was expecting gimping to win today and in order to retain the nr 3 spot I decided not to field all the youngsters and give myself a chance to win the game ahainst the Dingos.
Turns out I could have adhered to my original plan of playing the youngsters and give them all that experience. 12 linebreaks for such a poor return...
Crazy league, to be honest.
Unlike us, you have secured top seed going into the playoffs also with 2 rounds to go...

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
I want to point out that my 140k CSR reserve winger Florian Szydlowski is punching well above his weight.
4 tries, 6 try assists, 318 metres gained, 8 linebreaks, 21/27 tackles, 4 turnovers for 2 penalties, from a total of ~402 minutes.
Good enough stats to place him 5th= on try assists, 9th= on linebreaks for all of Div 1.
Compare that to 510k CSR Ipolito Vidini with 1 try, 6 try assists, 238 metres gained, 5 linebreaks, 35/38 tackles made, and 1 turnover for 6 penalties, from a total of ~597 minutes (80% of that at wing).

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
What is surprising is not the performances by Florian. He is doing as you would expect given the Crusaders domination.
I have some players about the same CSR and age and they have comparable stats.
What is surprising is that Vidini, as a senior player, does not have significantly better stats

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
If Szydlowski is getting helped out by his (better) teammates, then why are Vidini's stats so underwhelming? Is he not getting helped by his teammates?
Vidini has played the equivalent of 2.5 whole games more yet is trailing in tries and linebreaks and it's not like you can have negative stats for those by playing more - they always accumulate.
You would think that a 510k CSR wing in a team that has won 12/12 games and played in the equivalent of 7.5 of them would score more than 1 try rather than a 140k CSR wing showing him up.

You are assuming too much for my liking, here. Vidini is a psychotic player, while Florian is collected. If I were their teammate, I would gladly help Florian whereas
probably Vidini not that much.
For me the telling stat is total carries. Vidini has got 108, Â Szydlowski has got 111. It is interesting to notice that with virtually the same number of carries (for two players playing in the same position), Vidini's return is not better than Szydlowski's.

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
Perhaps the answer is as simple as this. The sample, after 12 league games, is too small. Having curious deviations to the expected is then only to be, well, expected.

WCC semi final: Katipos vs. Hammers
The stars seems to favour me slightly. I believe I'll go through. The other semi isn't scheduled, as Carugate's manager Lodor hasn't logged in yet to accept it. Which leaves me the Diamond Geezers in a possible final..
But frankly, if I reach the final I have already won.

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
CSR really is a funny thing. Hammers are away of course so no HGA but have a 75k CSR advantage and only 1 gold star to show for it while Katipos have 3. The Hammers forwards also have some dodgy looking untrainables and overall a super lightweight 905 kg pack.
I think Katipos will win and win big. If they can easily beat Beginners Mind they can do likewise to Hammers.

It goes to show that the higher the CSR, the more important it is to have something more than just core skills.
A skill level of 21.00 provides 81,600 CSR points whereas a skill of 20.00 provides 67,200. The 14,400 points that go between these two values could be used to increase a secondary skill from 1.00 to 13.6
TL/DR: attack:21 & technique:1 produces the same CSR as attack 20 & technique 13.6
I would say that not only CSR is a funny thing but it is a very bad indicator. Skill distribution should be the top criterion to assess a player/whole team's strength.

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
Mixed bag for my teams in the semifinals.
Patea lost to the Ravello Patriots 41-10 (not a bad result considering the 200K CSR deficit)
Dragon lord reached the final against Kingston Abbey 19-41

Re: Season 35 General Discussion
It's rare to play a team with such a CSR difference. I think you did pretty well.
Meanwhile, I will play the Diamond Geezers away in the WCC final, so it does seem as a WCC silver is the likely outcome. But as sparky gave me the win in the league today, propelling me to # 2 in the BR world, my status as a WCC finalist is, kind of, confirmed.
