New Offsite
It's possible that I'm just a severe pessimist but I don't think the old offsite is coming back. I figured I'd just create a new offsite for us. If the old one comes back then we can just abandon this one and jump back if we'd like.
I've only created a general discussion forum for now but we can obviously expand to what we need to whenever.
It also seems like a good opportunity to bring this idea to the table: Should we make some areas of the forum public?
The offsite was struggling before and I think lowering the barrier to entry for NZ and non-NZ alike might help boost sign-ups. Areas like General Discussion/NZI/NZ History... could benefit from just being public. Under the old method there's very little evidence that there's any activity going on. People will still need to be approved to view anything NT/U20 related.
We'll stick to the old method for now unless there is genuine agreement to change.

Agreed that public sections are a good idea.
What's the "live chat" functionality like on this site?

Re: New Offsite
I've set up a live chat at the bottom of the front page. Though you have to click on it to see the chat which isn't quite as inviting as before.
I can move it the top though.

Yeah move it to the top - the public chat is a huge draw-card for England's offsite so we can try our own

Re: New Offsite
OK, moved it to the top.
A related question I guess (the two were one in my mind but , should we let any scruffin sign up and post in the public areas? (i.e. like BR England). I'm in favour of it. Makes the whole sign-up process a bit easier and can hopefully prompt more posts.
I'll also create some more forums soon.
What are we after? My initial thoughts. Ones I've tagged (public) will only be made public with a consensus. Nothing is set in stone.
General (Public)
NZI (Public)
Buy/Sell (Public)
U20 (NZ Only)
NT (NZ Only)

Goddam, all that history gone.
Anyway. Will look over this forum and see what it has to offer.
I don't mind who signs up, as long as they do more than stalk

Set up for you... Currently anyone signed up and verified can see it. Work on some more granular permissions tomorrow.

Good Work Bren. Might eventually have to update the sticky in the NZ thread onsite "NZ Offsite Forum & International Player Details"
I support the open forum as you set it out.

What really galls me is that all that Ranfurly Shield history is gone. Not sure if it's possible to get that back.

No I don't think it will be since there's no way to reverse-track it - severely gutting...

I agree with making some of it public, try and get some more activity on this than the last one

Re: New Offsite
Testing out a different chat option. This is a version that builds on what comes with the forum. It shouldn't time out though you have to pick that option yourself.
You'll see a hovering blue box in the lower right hand corner of your screen with 'Chat' on it (it appears on every page it seems). Click on it and you'll see a button called "User Options" where you can disable the timeout.
We'll see how well it works I guess.

Re: New Offsite
OK, this chat doesn't really work that well for our purposes either so will try a different option at some point.
Guys, if you want any extra forums then let me know and I'll create them.
Also, I can create a ranks system like we had in the old offsite (based on the number of posts you make, the rank goes under your name), I think it ran from Despicable Matt Dunning to Godly Colin Meads. We can recreate that or anyone has any different ideas we can implement that?

Re: New Offsite
I'd welcome a return of the post rank system. I think we should move past Wayne Barnes in this version though
