Re: NZI Season 29 Signups
My only worry is that we'll get some non-accepters...
Although taking away playoffs might minimise that...

Re: NZI Season 29 Signups
Most of the new sign-ups responded pretty quickly to the email I sent out. So while they're quiet, they're at least active. So hopefully should be able to accept matches promptly.

NZI Council - we have 57 signups now. Do we hold out for 64 or go with 56?

Re: NZI Season 29 Signups
My vote would be to stick with 56. I think it'll be a slow climb to 64.

Re: NZI Season 29 Signups
My thoughts on the naming scheme. Obviously we can just swap some players in and out here, just wanted to get the ball rolling.
Premiership
Championship
Vaikona Cup
Kember Cup
Cottier Cup
Molia Plate
Goodrich Plate
Hohia Plate
Burn Bowl
Marler Bowl
Tazewell Bowl
Porcher Shield
Gair Shield
Germain Shield
Emerging Clubs Competition
I'd say we use the Championship/Premiership as the top two tiers, the ECC as the bottom tier and then just use as many of the remaining tiers that we need in any given season. The above naming scheme would be good for sign-ups up to 120 (assuming we keep the same structure)
Thoughts?

Those are lakes rather than rivers.
I thought mountains would be cool but I figured that I didn't really want to tie a league to a geographical area.

Re: NZI Season 29 Signups
Many moons ago the 2nd tier of the competition was called the Buckley Trophy - named after Buccaz himself
To that end I particular like the "BR Legends" names

Re: NZI Season 29 Signups
We've now hit 64 Signups.
Talked to buccaz who's pretty well semi-active if that, much like I've been the last couple of years
He's going to see about getting PhotoShop again to make more trophies - watch this space.
I've adjusted my sorted algorithm using Bren's data; using a combined weighted factor of Club's Ranking Points and the Average CSR of the Club's top XV players. This can be used to set up seeding. I need to do a bit more work on the actual seeding code to factor this in and then I can go ahead with setting it up - if we have more signups I've already coded in the ability to take a specified number of signups and those who were last to sign up, miss out.

Re: NZI Season 29 Signups
We have got 72 signups and I'm closing signups now.
Teams have been seeded and sorted into their competition tiers.
Have a look at it here.
I'll get cracking on creating fixtures in the next day or so.

Re: NZI Season 29 Signups
I can't help but think that Goodrich is the odd one out.
Would opt for Gair or possibly Porcher instead.
Were managers supposed to be allowed to sign up multiple clubs? We have a few "problems" depending on how anal we want to be. Probably ignore this season, but be more strict in the future:
A French manager Buldo signed up with both his French club Sélection Langudocienne and NZ club Manawatu Eagle's but they are in different tiers.
Manager Kingdazza signed up with his Australian club Morrinsville Mastiffs (which has never been in NZ) rather than his NZ club All Kings.
Manager Mad Man Van signed up his Namibian club Hyenas (which has never been in NZ) rather than his NZ club Staffords.

Re: NZI Season 29 Signups
I squeezed Goodrich in because I wanted another forward. That was the main reason, swap in Gair or Porcher and it's 4 backs to 1 forward. Goodrich had a pretty good career with the AB's spanning Season 4 to 21 (though with a big 5 season hiatus in there). 124 caps vs Porcher's 132 vs Gair's 99. Having said that, not particularly married to it, if people think Porcher or Gair will be a better choice to honour then speak up.
And yeah, I say be more strict with the sign-ups next season. Kingdazza has signed up to the WCC so I guess he figured he couldn't enter the All Kings (though he could have picked the anytime friendly option).

Re: NZI Season 29 Signups
Caps are not necessarily indicative of worth. Back in the old days there was only 1 game per week. Not sure when it was changed to 2. I suspect Goodrich benefited heavily from the change though.
I just think that Gair is too legendary to miss out. But if we really need another forward I think Marler, Scully, Vatuvai or Kemp would be better options.

Re: NZI Season 29 Signups
We don't really need another forward. Just my confused notion of balance. I don't mind changing it to Gair.
