You spent $969k on McConnell at the start of the season...we'll see if you can recoup the cost.

lol yeah. TM has always been my weakest part of the game, I'm useless at the tactics of it. I'd wager I'll lose money on McConnell.

I dunno, there are some dangerously stupid people on the TM these days. I mean this one guy spent $2.5M on a player who is nearly 35yo. What a n00b Laughing

I recently read and I think it's an opinion I tend to agree with, the TM is absolutely crazy these days.

I blame it on the inflation provoked by the changes in season 28. Newbies getting 6 or 7 extra minor sponsors means extra $120K-140K per week per newbie available.

After 14 weeks in season 28 that is $1.96M more money per newbie.

In my club (a newbie myself) I have opted to expand the stadium and hire better coaches and build new facilities and now that I could start thinking of buying players I think I prefer to focus on the Academy because money's not worth a dime these days.

Keep them off your ground, he's one for the AB's! Very Happy

Man, I just had a look at his lineout stats. Your juniors obviously can't compete with the older clubs in your league, but he seems to be winning and stealing throws at will..

Ah yes Pareraukawa Jr. Most people have never scouted a 208cm player. Best I've had is 206cm.

@donkeysaint: I really look forward to promote him in season 29 and see how he goes. More or less he's gonna play every possible game. Even if I may risk losing some games.

@ivelostmysparky: To be honest, I was not even looking for it. I happened to have some stars and thought: "everybody's spending theirs, will spend about 30".

In my samoan affiliate I bought a 206cm to do some test training. To ensure I am ready to properly train him when he's 17.

Another point to be considered. Because games played LTNT will not mean more experience, youngsters in the academy will be now playing 14 "normal experience gain" games whereas if promoted in the clubs they could end up playing 14 league games + several cup games + several monday friendlies (even if Monday friendlies don't increase experience, the IGT provided is not provided by the YA).

One of the ramifications of the experience change to avoid LTNT spam can be that 17 yos no longer remain in the YA but are promoted as soon as they turn 17.

Maybe not. L3 YA training, if planned and managed well (which might or might not require full reveals), is still better than maximum L4, or even L5, senior training.

And even with the new change, promoting at 17 will only be superior if the player really recieves full priority in the form of training and game time, which in practice does not always happen.

Edit: To illustrate, let me quote Sparky's very interesting post from this thread. It can do with a repost.  Exclamation

Should you keep 17yos in your academy or promote straight away?

The results are in. 8 out of 10 players that I was tracking in my L3 YA took exactly 5 weeks for their skills (range from 4 to 12) to pop. There doesn't seem to be any slow down in training rate as you head towards the 14 limit, and I presume the 2 players that didn't pop (with 13 skill level) will pop to 14 in the Sunday YA game (update - 1 did).

So how does 4xYA sessions @ 5 weeks compare to L4 and L5 senior training?
L4:
3x IT = 5/6 weeks
2x IT + 1xTT = 6/7
2x IT = 8/9
1x IT + 1xTT = 10/11
L5: Take off one week from L4 times.

Now to normalise pop times into pops per season for a fair comparison, apples with apples if you like.
YA = 12.8 pops/season
(16 weeks/5 weeks to pop = 3.2, and 3.2 x4 YA sessions = 12.8 )

And how does this compare to L4 and L5 senior training? well that depends on their training regime.
Cross = 12.1 pops/season (Activist's player on L4 for his current regime)
Sailer = 11.8 (my player on L4)
Kunavore = 13.4 (my player at my L5 USA club on his current regime).

So what does this all mean? there is no clear cut answer as broadly 4x L3 YA sessions = 10x L4or5 sessions for the limited data that I have. But as you can train a hell of a lot of kids in your academy at once, and it frees up senior training sessions, I'd recommend keeping players in the YA until a few of their core skills (for whatever position you are training them for) hit 14.

---------------------------------
Always LTNT for experience bonus. Rating stars don't mean that much.
I'm pretty sure we talked about this on the old OS, but it can be feasible to train 6 players at once - 3x 19/20yos in seniors and 3x 17/18yos in the YA. This is subject to the players starting skills, positions, what skills you are training etc. YA training stops at 13.99, at lower skills YA training is pretty much equal to senior training at L4 and L5.

So to maximise the YA output for U20s keep players in the YA for 2 seasons (also saves you paying for their wages) and train 6 at a time with a 3-3 age group split. If you train players that aren't kickers or locks (or props depending on what skills you value) this is rather easy to do. To maximise profit sell 17yos with early season (<R6) birthdays, otherwise keep them in the academy. Height (205cm+) sells for big money, and to lesser extent weight.

Yep, I am aware of the fact that the YA trains them marginally faster than 10 IT sessions in the senior team but:

a) since it will not make sense to spam LTNT in the YA
b) since it will be 14 games with normal experience gain in the YA
c) since in the senior team they can have some 20 games with normal experience gain (14 league + 5 cup + 1 playoff / promotion)
d) since they can have 2 or 3 x IGT per week

....

because of all that, I think the training in the senior team will become more effective. CSR wise and experience wise

The changes will make senior training more effective, but will it overtake the YA?

All depends on what level your team is and how strong your opponents are. Is a 17-18yo with ~30-100k CSR going to get much game time in a Div 1 or 2 team, or would he be better off in the YA for an extra 2 seasons? For me I would keep him in the YA, for you promoting at 17yo may be the best idea.
