Re: Chat thread
I come from a background of battle rap, something like the movie 8 mile - I saw him writing some rhymes dissing someone and thought I'd jump in.
No harm intended, was just a little fun - in battle rap nothing is off limits... family, kids, race, faith, sexual orientation, dead relatives... we say whatever we can to destroy opponents with words but don't mean anything we say.
At the end of the battle we shake hands and have a beer.
Too many pc sensitive souls out there. You can't say this you can't say that, this should be in that thread not this thread, who really cares? The offsite and community needs activity regardless of what or where things have been said.
As the original post said, post about anything. We can go back to talking about radishes if you guys want.

Re: Chat thread
I sort of enjoyed that rap of yours, as I did Razors Bond theme. And at the same time, it was starting to get a little too much.
Our societies have used several millennia to build up norms about how to interact. Common sense and decent behaviour, could sum it up. Private and public space would also contain quite different spans of that. The internets have sort of done away with parts of that within a decade or so. Language and interaction that used to be, and still is, very rare in face-to-face meetings, has become quite frequent behind the screen of (often) anonymity, that the web gives us. Calling out a slight moderation of that as political correctness is also getting more common, imo..
Interesting to hear about the battle rap backstory, though. Puts it in another context.

Re: Chat thread
What you might perceive as thin-skinned anxiety towards things controversial , is nothing new to our day and age. As a history teacher and student I would like to assert that.
From that same standpoint I would also claim that this day and age is probably the most allowing and "liberal" (in the sense of allowing a widespread collection of viewpoints, stands and behaviour) ever.

@donkeysaint Yes people are very libiral when the opinion is that of the masses. Just look at the SA university scene now. Our campus is the only one in the country not closed/closing for a while because of strikes.
As soon as you deviate from the public Opinion you get Hounded hahahaha

Re: Chat thread
Ah cool, all good. I just didn't know the limits, got the feeling others were staying away so wanted to create a seperate battle-ground. Years ago I was involved in forums where the shitlordery was sublime, sure some toxicity but normally all good at the end of the day. BR forums have been so dry though and I'm a bit out of practise so not on my best balance yet. Some forums even had a prison function, which was great fun.
Still, if the guy at the back of the class fires spitballs at my neck, I get him in the eye and he cries foul, and then gets all snotty when agreeing with the teacher that it's bad behaviour before running off to the toilets to smoke dried broccoli I will be the first in again with the wedgie at breaktime.

Re: Chat thread
Anyway, now that we're discussing how the ultra-liberal has become toxic; what does everyone think of this video that a retweet of it from Richard Dawkins got him deplatformed from speaking at a conference? (btw I love all the author's stuff, definitely in my top 5 over the last while, and as many comments say, it's criminally undersubscribed).

Never used it personally, just have the company account and am just proof-reader. Imagine me let loose on social media as a real person, bankrupt in four months.

Re: Chat thread
Thanks Chewy! We won it as a group though, and there's no I in team.
I have even started using we and us, in all the BR mails I send out. I must remenmber to sign off the mails with something along the lines of the NZ U20 management team, or the impression given might be the opposite of what I'm trying to give.
